Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

MockingJay releases tonight at midnight!

Books of Wonder book store in New York City is hosting this amazing release party and Suzanne will be there and I'm missing it by a week.

I'm visiting NY next week for our family vacation, so I've been putting off pre-ordering the book, so when I finally get to visit the store I can purchase it there...who knows maybe they'll have a signed copy waiting there on the shelf just for me. Here's hoping....

Any other suggestions for fabulous places we shouldn't miss?

Saturday Rhyme Time

A simple and fun way to introduce a literacy activity to any story time is to use a hand drum like this one; in the introduction and discover the names of the children in attendance.
Super Duper
Super Duper 1,2,3
Will you play your name for me?
My name is Olivia
(repeat -tapping the drum for each syllable)
Offer the drum to each child and have them
tap their own names.

The Hunger Games-Disney Princess Style

I was visiting Danielle's blog "Every Last Page" and had to share the amazing blog post she mentions from "First Novels Club"

The Hunger Games-Disney Princess Style

Which Disney Princess would be most likely to survive the Hunger Games?
I'd be rooting for Belle, she's my fav, but I agree with Danielle and think that perhaps Mulan or Pocohontas would prove to be most resourceful.

What do you think?

Dear George Clooney, Please Marry My Mom

Dear George Clooney, Please Marry My Mom by Susin Nielson
Release date: August 10th 2010
Publisher: Tundra Books

"Violet's TV-director dad has traded a job in Vancouver for one in Los Angeles, their run-down house for a sleek ranch-style home complete with a pool, and, worst of all, Violet's mother for a trophy wife, a blonde actress named Jennica. Violet's younger sister reacts by bed-wetting, and her mother ping-pongs from one loser to another, searching for love. As for Violet, she gets angry in ways that are by turns infuriating, shocking, and hilarious."

Violet is a wonderfully likable character. I instantly connected to her and though my heart ached because of her situation, her antics and outbursts had me laughing out loud.

I think girls (at any age) whose parents have been through divorce will relate to Violet, her feelings of abandonment and her sheer desperation for a better relationship with her father.

She's helpless in regards to her parents decisions, where her father chooses to focus his attention, and the men that her mom chooses to date...she's fed up and takes matters into her own hands. Wouldn't life be better if her mom were to marry George Clooney? If only she could meet him. . .

A truly exceptional read. It reminded me of how I felt reading a book by Judy Blume or Paula Danzinger.

...George Clooney (sigh) -

The book blogger hop hosted by Crazy-for-Books.

Today's Question:

How many books do you have on your To-Be-Read shelf?

Too many to count. I can't keep up with everything I want to read, so I just take it one book at a time.
I used to try and organize the books in order of which ones to read first/which ones needed reviews/which ones I wanted use for class visit presentations. I've failed to find a system to organize that worked for me.

I'd be open and thankful for suggestions...

Blue Fire by Janice Hardy

Blue Fire by Janice Hardy.
Second book in the Healing Wars Series.
Release date: October 2010

"While trying to lead the Takers out of Geveg, fifteen-year-old Nya is captured by bounty-hunters and taken to Baseer. . . "

I was so thrilled to receive this title as I absolutely loved the first in the series "Shifter"

The book begins where we left off. Nya has been accused of murder and is in hiding along with the many Takers she rescued. She attempts to flee Geveg and is captured by bounty hunters in the process. Her beloved sister is taken, along with the others and they are seperated.

Nya has amazing fortitude. She fights for the safety and rights of others when no one else will. She's desperate to keep her family together even if that means risking her own life. Now. trapped in Baseer she must face her enemy, and her past as she struggles for everything that is important to her.

Blue Fire did not disappoint, I am still very taken by Nya's story and can't wait for more. This series is perfect for those who have enjoyed the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
